Well, to begin with; there is only ever any talk about hotel management courses in Kolkata and never anything about the motel. But motels are also a very important part of the whole travel, tourism and hospitality business. Since hotel management in Kolkata is such a big business, it is only fair that you learn about the difference between the two.
There are various criteria on which this distinction can be made.
Location
Hotels: - It is typically located in or close to the city, away from the major highways and roadways.
Motels: - These are typically situated just off or near a major highway.
Cost of stay
The costs in hotels and motels often vary in size, and also in the duration of the guests' stay. Hotel accommodation seems to be generally more expensive, although the location is the key; a four-star hotel in a small or medium-sized city could cost far less than a smaller motel in a state's more expensive area. In terms of length, hotels are designed for longer stays; many are situated in towns with amenities within walking distance, and others, called extended-stay hotels, are constructed for visitors who expect to stay for weeks and months. Motels provide short term lodging by arrangement.
Building size
Hotels: - Buildings are typically multi-storied
Motels: - The construction of these buildings is typically single or double storied.
Service Quality
The hotels generally offer a wider range of services. This may include room service, on-site restaurant and cocktail bar, laundry and on-site fitness and relaxation such as indoor pools, workout facilities, and spa facilities such as hot tubs and massage therapist service. Many hotels act as resorts, providing comprehensive entertainment options for their guests such as resorts and theatres. Traditionally, motels offer fewer facilities but some have pools and free breakfast.
Both of them are typically spaces of accommodation but these were some of the basic differences you should know about.
